Welcome to the 2016-17 school year. I am happy to share that I will be working with your child as his/her EC teacher.   Our classroom is room 516, and it is located in the court yard next to the playground at Dixon Elementary.

I would like to give you some of my background information. The 2016-17 school will mark my 16th year teaching in the field of special education. I began my career in Texas where I taught for 3 years after earning a Masters of Education in Educational Psychology-Special Education in May of 1999 from the University of Houston. I chose to further my studies by taking graduate courses in the field of School Counseling. I also hold two undergraduate degrees in the areas of Early Childhood Elementary Education and Psychology. In July of 2004, my family and I moved to Onslow County. We have been a part of the Dixon community ever since. I had worked for the 11 years at Dixon Middle School In July of 2015, I was asked to move down to the elementary school to work with younger children.   I eagerly accepted this opportunity, and I am excited to be working with you and your child this year.

I am glad to be able to return to the roots of my training.   It is my firm belief that each and every child is capable of learning and contributing to the community in which they live. As your child’s teacher it is my mission to ensure that he/she is actively engaged in lessons that will keep them on a path to self- discovery, as well as academic and social growth.   Communication and team work are vital components to ensuring that growth occurs over the course of the school year. I will be setting up communication folders that contain information about your child’s daily schedule and activities. In addition, I will be sending weekly group e-mails keeping you informed of academic subjects being addressed and other classroom activities or school wide events. Individual messages will be sent on an as needed basis. Of course, should any questions arise, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time using the information listed above.   Working together, we will start your child on a life-long journey and equip them with the skills needed to reveal talents as well as discover their true potential!
