I have been part of the Dixon community for many years and graduated from Dixon High School in 1988.
I graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in elementary education from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 1991, earned a Master’s Degree in Education in 1994 and Administrative Certification in 1996. In 2003, I gained National Board Certification in the area of Middle School Generalist and was recertified in 2013. During the 2003-2004 school year, I was named Onslow County School’s Teacher of the Year.
This is my 26th year as an educator with Onslow County Schools. I began my career as a third grade teacher at Blue Creek Elementary, served as Assistant Principal at Jacksonville Commons Elementary and Dixon Elementary, then returned to the classroom in 2001. As a 1988 graduate of Dixon High and its first NC Teaching Fellow, this community is home for me.
I live in Surf City with my husband Daniel, my daughter Lindsay (a new middle schooler) and my son Jacob who just started his freshman year at UNC-Wilmington (sniff sniff). We have a shipoo named Andy, a schnoodle named Willie, and a stepcat named Smokie (inherited from a former student). The beach is my absolute favorite place to be.
Teaching keeps me young, but I also have a passion for writing. I am the humor columnist for the Topsail Post and Voice and have been a staff columnist for The Onslow Times, Eastern North Carolina Weekly News and Cape Fear Living Magazine.
