My experience as a teacher has been with children in elementary school.  At the very beginning of my career, I was a teacher assistant in a public school for children with special needs.  My next experience was a teaching position in a private Montessori School.  There, I taught children from 3-6 years old (mixed age classrooms) until they graduated kindergarten.  I worked at this school for 6 years, received an AMI Montessori Certification and a Master's Degree in Education during the summers.  My next goal was to try public school as a teacher.  This is my tenth year teaching in Onslow County Schools.  I taught kindergarten for 2 years at Hunters Creek Elementary and transferred to Dixon Elementary.  Here, I taught first grade my first year and now teach kindergarten.  I am happy to be at Dixon Elementary!

My name is Alisha Williams.  I am originally from Long Island, New York.   Before I moved to North Carolina , I was offered a position to open a Montessori School in Tampa, Florida.  It was a hard decision, but I decided that I wanted to experience working as a teacher in a public school.  A family member suggested coming to North Carolina.  I received a teaching position after my first interview.  I felt that it was a sign to come to N. Carolina.   Here I am!
