Earth Day!  
 Dixon Families,

PBIS Celebration - 1st Grade Egg Hunt  

 

Dear 1st Grade Parents,

April 7,2017 will be our PBIS Easter Egg Hunt to celebrate the 3rd 9 weeks of Catching the Wave and demonstrating all 7 Habits of Leadership. Students need to have earned at least $203 dolphin dollars by March 30th.

Donations of plastic eggs and wrapped candy (no chocolate) for this celebration will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

100th Day of School!  

February 10th is the 100th Day of School! So much learning has taken place since the first day of school. Encourage your child to celebrate this special day with a decorated T-shirt of 100 things. Please see parent letter sent home for some ideas. 

 


Happy Chinese New Year!  

This Chinese New Year is the Year of the Rooster! February 9th will be our schoolwide Chinese New Year parade. All visitors should wait along the sidewalks at the front of the school to view the parade. This is always a fun event to see a variety of Chinese costumes and dances.

Farm Field Trip  

Tomorrow, 11/16/16, is our farm field trip!

Old River Farms

Please don't forget to have your child bring a coat, bag lunch (if not buying lunch from the school) and dress for the weather. We will be leaving at 9:15 a.m. and will return at 3 p.m. 


Patriotic Pride Day  

Help support our 5th graders raise money for their trip to Washington D.C.! $1 to wear red, white and blue to the extreme on November 10, 2016.

mClass Reading 3D  

Beginning of Year reading assessments have begun and will end on September 27th. With this data information given on your child's areas of strength and concerns, please familiarize yourself with the the formal mClass assessment, and also the reading process your child will develop over time. 

Please read more information on how we use the mClass Reading 3D formative assessment system to measure your child's reading and comprehension skills in the state of NC. Keep in mind, other informal assessments are used as well to monitor your child's progress.

Click on the orange tab to the left -"mClass Reading 3D Reading Overview". Next, click on the grey tab "Basic Early Literacy Skills", following the grey tabs underneath for the introduction. 

This introduction will provide a walk-through of your child's reading process and a portion of the reading instruction given from the beginning to the end of the year. Reading 3D instruction is given along with Daily 5 and CAFE.

Open House  

Parents please join us for Open House on September 29, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. Your child will have lots of information to share with you! This will be a good time to sign up for a parent conference to discuss any concerns or to check on your child's progress. The Book Fair will also be held in the school library.

Orientation Night  

New students and parents,

Please stop by room 718 this Friday -August 26, 2016 from 2-6 p.m. for orientation! This will be a great time to introduce ourselves, for students to take a look at their classroom and choose where they would like to sit. This would also be a good time to bring in school supplies for your child so they will be best prepared for next week. Hope to see everyone soon!

Sea Turtle Hospital   
To begin our Sea Turtle learning unit, the following links provided below are episodes with AquaKids, which includes an interview with Jean Beasley who is the founder of the Sea Turtle Hospital located in Surf City, NC. The interview also includes Ms. Howard, who is our school Art Specialist and also takes part as a current dedicated volunteer to help care for Sea Turtles as well. Please view these two award winning episodes to prepare for our field trip!
