 PeachJar announcment from County office

Onslow County Schools, January 25, 2017 — Onslow County Schools will soon launch a new electronic flyer communication tool called “Peachjar.”  Subscribers will be able to view school-approved eflyers by simply clicking on the Peachjar button on your school’s website homepage.

Not only will student backpacks will be lighter but also this “green” initiative will save our schools tons of paper and reduce copy costs by thousands of dollars.  In addition to saving time and money, it will ensure information makes it home to parents; no more worrying what was lost between school and home.  For the remainder of this school year, as we ease into full use of Peachjar, we will utilize both paper and Peachjar eflyers.

The email address to which Peachjar will send the flyer notification is the “Guardian Email Address” that was indicated on the student’s registration form.  If a parent wishes to change the email address, they should contact their school’s data manager who will make the changes directly in PowerSchool.

We are scheduled to launch February 13.  Parents will receive a welcome email that includes a username and password.  This is provided to give parents the opportunity to manage their account and flyer delivery preferences.  It is not necessary to login to receive or view school-approved eflyers.

This system is used exclusively for distribution of district-approved flyers.  Your email address will not be shared or used for any other purposes.  Thank you for your support.

To learn more about Peachjar go to https://www.peachjar.com/schools.html

January 2016

Welcome to a New Year!

Lots of new things going on with the “fin”tastic firsties.

First, if you haven’t done so already, please sign up for “REMIND” Text @nedel to 81010. This will give you a direct connection to what’s going on in the classroom. That being said there is NO MORE class Dojo. It was not working as effectivitly as I would have liked this year. Sorry for the change up but I already feel that this is working out much better for everyone – and less connection issues.

A new way that I’m tracking behavior is using “Fuzzys” the kiddos started using it last week and already love it! I will have them trade in their fuzzys every Friday now instead of every other. I feel that this is too much time in between and the students are seeing the benefit/ reward soon enough.

I sent home a few scholastic magazines with a parent letter. The letter is explaining the importance behind why teachers really push parents to invest in books. It really is a win win situation. Students get to practice their reading with fun books; teachers get some of the benefits by buying books for the class to use during Daily 5 time/ salient reading time.

Friendly reminder: we do snack EVERY DAY! Students are responsible for bringing in their own snack to eat. The class doesn’t have any more snacks to be giving out.

This month I will be assessing the students in the class for their MOY (middle of the year) Benchmark assessments to see if they have improved for middle of the year. The middle of the year benchmark is done with Non-fiction books on. I do not get to choose the books that the students get to read. So, please help prep you child at home by reading as much Non-fiction books as possible with lots of follow up comprehension questions. I have sent home a few papers to help with this as well as uploaded a few onto Remind.

Please check the Newsletter that is attached for a more in-depth look at what we will be covering this month.

Dixon Elementary School currently receives $147, 000 in Title I funds which are provided by the federal government. We are currently in jeopardy of losing this valuable funding and need your assistance. Title I funds are directly tied to our free and reduced lunch data. This year Dixon Elementary has seen a reduction in our free and reduced lunch figures; therefore, we are at risk of losing Title I funding for the next school year. Title I funds are currently being used to reduce class size, purchase teaching materials, and provide additional technology and software that benefit all of our students. Although your child may choose to bring their lunch to school, we could still benefit from completion of the free and reduced lunch application. All students that are eligible for free and reduced lunch (whether they purchase a school lunch or not) are factored into the formula that is used to determine whether a school qualifies for Title I funds. If you feel that you may qualify, please take a few minutes to complete the application on the link provided below or contact the school to request for an application to be sent home with your child. Thank you in helping us provide the best education possible for our students.

*Only one application is needed per family.

December Events

With the holiday season upon us there is so much going on in our personal lives as well as our children’s lives. I have some really exciting things planned for the kiddos this month. I started the month off with introducing the students to Buddy, our elf on the shelf. He is hanging around the classroom to keep an eye out for those good girls and boys. Check our Class Dojo to see some of his daily adventures. Just to give the parents a heads up, my Dojo was having some issues at the start of the month. Hopefully by now things are starting to improve.

The students received information about Santa’s Work shop. The work shop will be open to the students on their Wave Day also M-Thursday 8:30- 3:00 and Friday 8:30-12. Please make sure that the money is put into the envelope provided and with specific amount written for each person.

This is also a friendly reminder that we are still collecting money for classroom t-shirt orders. The t-shirts are $8.00 and you must indicate what size you would like.

I sent home scholastic orders with the students about a week ago. These would make great gifts for growing readers!! The code is N9NJQ to order them online or you can send the money into me. Whichever is easiest for you. Please have the money and orders turned in by Dec 16th if you choose to purchase any. Also note that anything you purchase through scholastic the teacher is able to get free books for the classroom because of your purchases. Continue to read over Christmas break. This will benefit your child greatly!

We will be having a Christmas party on December 18th to begin around 12:00pm. My plan is to do about 4 or 5 centers. One center will be for Christmas card making, another will be cookie decorating, Christmas ornament decorating, and peppermint play do. I will also be playing the movie the elf on ths help for the kiddos to watch while they enjoy their snacks and doing their crafts. I am reaching out to all of the parents for help with some supplies for these activities as well as volunteers to come in to help out. I will need some craft icing, regular flavored icing, sprinkles, Christmas themed cookie cutters, plates, napkins, juice, healthy snacks –veggie tray, fruit tray, snacks that won’t get the kiddos too crazy/ hyper. Volunteers are very much needed for this activity to run smoothly if you are unable to attend bringing something in will be greatly appreciated.

I also went into the Forms and added our December News letter in there for parents to see if by chance you haven't seen it :)

I will be going in and trying to put up some activities you can be doing with your child at home to help improve their reading comprehension and some of their math concepts.

I also added some Math homework in there as something extra if you would like to work with your child on some math concepts. I posted the one that were currently working on in the classroom: True and False. The middle of next week we should be moving on to shapes: 2D and 3D and the attributes of those shapes. I hope this helps some of you out.

Here is a December News letter from Mr. Reed. Please click the link to find out more about what's going on at Dixon. https://www.smore.com/jr9ad

October activities

This month will be busy with fun filled activities, however with the recent increase in excessive talking going on in the room some activities may not be available for the students to attend. Please ensure that when your student comes to school they are here to learn.

Events going on this October:

October 13: Fire Safely Day (check our DOJO class story for pictures)

October 30th: Monster Mash- your child must have $160 Dolphin Dollar in order to attend. I would be helpful on my end if you would total up the dolphin dollars that your child has earned at the end of every week (just for that week). This is how I have been keeping track of how much they have earned and if they are able to go. Thank you for your help with this.

The fall festival will be taking place next month on November 6th. I am in need of many bags of DUM DUMS for the activity that we will be doing on that day.

The fall festival will not take place until next month, November 6th from 5-7pm. It should be a lot of fun I hope to see you there.

OOPS!

Parents, I do apologize for leaving this out in my earlier post, but your child's interim reports will be going home today. Please do not worry too much about the interim's. We will further discuss your childs growth at our conference.

As far as conferences go. I want to make sure I communicated this again with those of you who have signed up for a conference from 7-7:30. I must change this time to 7:30-8. Please make sure you have made this change in your schedules.

Thank you for your understanding. Lets' make this year a great one :)

Busy BEE kinda week 9/21-9/25

Good Afternoon parents, I wanted to let you all know that your child should be getting new spelling words this week.

They are: fox, lock, mop, box, log, pot, top, rot, sob, dog.

In case some of their hand writing is not legible.

Another important reminder, I am sending home federal cards today. For every federal card that comes back correctly completed TOMORROW your child will get a piece of candy from me. If it does not come back tomorrow it must come back before FRIDAY 9/25!!! These are very very important.

I will send another reminder about this though out the week and will also put this up on my web page.

Also TOMORROW is picture day(if you wish to purchase any please make sure the form is completely filled out and the money is in the envelope and returned tomorrow with your child)  AND Open House AND PE2 so make sure the kiddos are being sent with  sneakers on.

Wednesday is a half day please make sure arrangements are made to ensure they get home safely.

I know this is a lot of information but all of it is very important so take a moment to be sure everything is done.

Thank you all for your hard work, you truly are amazing.

New Spelling words

 Attention Parents:

I wanted to make you aware that I will be giving your children new spelling words this week. They will be short /i/ words. Last week was just a trial run. Expect to see and practice the new spelling words this week. I will be giving them a spelling test on Friday this week. I did not give it to them last week because I was just trying to see how they would do with their practice. I hope this didn't confuse you all too much.

Monday is our PE 2. Please make sure your children are wearing sneakers!

Friday is our first field trip. We are going to the puppet show. If you haven't turned in your permission slip or money please do so by WEDNESDAY! This will help me to get a head count of how many students will be attending.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Mrs.Blue
